PROFESSIONAL PHILOSOPHY

Over six years, I worked in three AmeriCorps programs that shaped and informed my commitment to working in partnership with marginalized communities. My work with Jumpstart, City Year, and Teach for America were instrumental in transforming my beliefs on education and informing my equity perspective.

I am committed to understanding the complexities of educational inequities and challenging the status quo that enables them. I believe that my students deserve an education that prepares them for college and careers regardless of socioeconomic status, zip codes, district lines, race, or language. Students should be held to high expectations and exposed to opportunities to deepen their learning.

I aspire to utilize my personal and positional power to influence connection and positive change. I remain committed to working with marginalized communities and understanding my students' barriers to college access. Therefore, I continue to build knowledge on the intersection of socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and race and how these impact a student's educational opportunities. I plan to leverage my ME.d. from Northeastern in eLearning and Instructional Design to build equity in face-to-face, hybrid, and online learning environments and design evidence-based and rigorous educational opportunities for marginalized communities.
